The Awakening is the first abstract painting in the Water Series. Paint has been applied using different techniques with the aim of gaining this atmospheric effect. Underlying metal (copper) gives a further trnslucent effect to the overall surface. The painting has been termed as strong yet tranquil.
The painting is stretched onto a 20mm thick wooden stretcher. The stretcher frame is light-weigth and has central internal supports kept open with wooden keys.
